We just busted Steele out of county on 11/15/21 – so he is brand new to the rescue! He still desperately need a foster home as one of our board members stepped up to take him to save his life since we had no public interest as of yet. This boy is quite the looker with his stunning blue eyes, but he definitely needs someone to go slow and approach him with patience as he decompresses.
He has done well with the other dogs in his foster home so far, AND hasn’t shown a ton of interest in the cat – he has been separated so hasn’t had an opportunity to try to chase or chomp, but the fact that he doesn’t overreact when he sees a kitty is a good initial sign.
Does not like any motion that seems like he is being restrained (other than a leash surprisingly, which he does well on and walks with better than most huskies!). He landed on the e-list at county because he bit the hand (one puncture, could have been accidental but was most likely a fear-based reaction) of an individual while he was being caught as a stray. He does not do well with anything that to us might seem more like a hug to humans – arms around him from both directions – and really needs an adopter who is experienced, patient, and calm to allow him to get comfortable.
On the plus side of the above…. he gives lots of warnings that he isn’t comfortable! He make grumbly sounds and will curl his lip if he is REALLY not into something. He also allowed muzzling relatively easily too. So someone who can work with him and go slow through everything will be best. He has not tried to bite anyone in his foster home thankfully so we are optimistic with time he will just continue to improve.
Let us know if you might be able to help foster this boy more longterm!
