Meet Romper! This sweet boy is another intake from the euthanasia list at the Maricopa County shelter. We honestly can’t even say why Romper ended up on the e-list. During our initial evaluation, he was just a typical shy dog. He showed no aggression at all and was just scared. He has come out of his shell quite a bit in a safe environment.
Now that he’s had some time to settle in, Romper is doing well and has proven to be an easy dog. He loves to be outside and is fully housetrained. He’ll use the doggy door to go in and out when he wants, even choosing to sleep outside some nights. His fosters have not reported any behavioral issues; he doesn’t bark excessively or chew on things that he shouldn’t. When he does happen to do something wrong, he responds well to correction.
For a husky, Romper is relatively low-energy. He enjoys playing with the other husky in his foster home, though he can be a bit timid at times. When he’s not playing, he loves to sleep and sunbathe. He also enjoys walks and does well on a leash. Although he is generally more of an independent dog, he does enjoy belly rubs and snuggles once he’s comfortable with that person. What Romper really loves, however, is food. He absolutely LOVES meat treats and especially cheese, with his fosters saying he will do anything if cheese is involved.
Romper is truly the special kind of dog who could do well in almost any home, provided the environment isn’t too loud. He’s good with both kids and other dogs (he has not been tried with cats). He’s the perfect balance of independent and people-oriented. He plays when he wants and is otherwise content to chill with his people. The only thing that Romper would likely struggle with is being inside all day, as he enjoys being able to go in and out as he pleases. His fosters have not tried crating him, but they haven’t had any issues with him being left out unsupervised. If you’re looking for a low-key, well-behaved, cheese-loving companion, Romper is the pup for you!
