Meet Vito! Vito was adopted as an 8-week-old puppy. He is now 11 months old. Unfortunately, his high energy was not tolerated well by the older dogs in the home, so his owners made the decision to return him. He is also suffering from some ongoing medical issues, but we are working to diagnose these and would love to find him a great foster-to-adopt home in the meantime.
Vito is a typical young husky – full of energy and very playful with other dogs. He has done well with other large dogs both in his home and at the dog park, which he loves. Though he may be too much for older or less energetic dogs, he would absolutely love having another active dog to play with. He also loves walks, although he does pull on leash (as many huskies do).
Despite his energy, Vito is a sweet and affectionate boy. He loves to cuddle and get belly rubs, and he has done well with children of varying ages. He also loves to be near his people, which unfortunately has manifested as some separation anxiety when left alone. He chews on his back legs and sometimes pulls out tufts of fur if left in his crate for too long, so he would do best in a home where he is not left alone for long periods. He also has some destructive tendencies and a habit of jumping up on people, but he responds well to re-direction with treats. He is food-motivated and would likely do well given some training.
In addition to the separation anxiety, Vito has struggled with diarrhea on and off and has shown a tendency to eat poop (even his own and even when it’s fresh). He had a few seizures when he was very young; these have not occurred since he was 3 months old, although he does have a tremble from time to time. We will be having a food sensitivity test and bloodwork done to hopefully root out the cause of these issues.
Vito is a sweet young boy who would thrive in an active, husky-savvy home. We do think he would do best in a home with other playful dogs to give him an outlet for his energy and to keep his separation anxiety at bay. With some structure and TLC, he would make a great adventure buddy. Fill out an application today if you’re interested in meeting Vito!
