Lena

~6yr old female Siberian Husky

Lena is one of the SWEETEST most loving girls when it comes to humans – she just adores all humans and all human touch and attention. Unfortunately for poor Lena, she is also almost if not completely blind. She suffers from Glaucoma and Cateracts – we have been managing and maintaining these conditions with eyedrops and are continuing to work with a specialist to determine if and when surgery will be a necessity.

Lena comes to us from Tijuana, Mexico. We call her our little lovebug sweet potato here in her foster home – we aren’t joking she will roll over and try to paw at you for attention…. and could definitely stand to lose a few pounds and get a little more exercise!

Because of her blindness, she can be hit or miss with other dogs. When she first meets other dogs, she can snap and a couple times has lunged. She is currently living in a foster home with 5 other huskies and even when she blindly runs into them, she has no issues now that she is comfortable. She has lunged at a brand new dogs before, so any consistent reasoning outside of the initial introduction period seems to be pretty hit or miss. If she is adopted to a home with other dogs she will need an experienced adopter who is committed to patiently working with her, separating, and focusing on slow introductions – she would also need to be with a more calm dog that doesn’t try to play with her too much! Once she gets comfortable with another dog’s smell she seems content to mostly leave them alone… she would also love to be an only dog we are sure though 🙂

Cats are not a great idea unless you can separate her consistently – she is in a foster home with a cat and every time she hears the cat she jumps up and tries to “stalk” (she is not so graceful though!) and find him, and she has not been successful yet but when she’s gotten close enough to smell she’s tried to air-chomp…. so probably wouldn’t do well if she could actually catch one, and because of this we are recommending no small dogs too!

I cannot emphasize enough she has ZERO issues with humans, she is all love and sweetness and just SO adorable in person! Let us know if you want to meet Lena!
