Meet Carlo! Like many of our intakes, Carlo found himself on the e-list at Maricopa County Animal Care & Control. He had been e-listed previously and was adopted out to a situation that wasn’t the best fit for him. Soon after being returned, he found himself back on the e-list. Though he didn’t get adopted before his deadline, we were able to pull him thanks to the help of an amazing foster.

Carlo is a big, happy boy with the energy you would expect from a roughly 2-year-old husky. With all that energy, he isn’t suited to a home with small animals or really little kids. He has also struggled to find the right fit with other dogs as he has had fights related to dominance. Because of this, we think he’d do best as an only-dog in a home. He did show some resource-guarding behavior at first, but we suspect that this will improve as he has more time to decompress from his most recent shelter stay.

Though he doesn’t get along with all dogs, Carlo absolutely LOVES people, including older kids. He loves belly rubs and cuddling and will definitely let you know when he wants to snuggle. He’s equally content to go for a walk or hike or to hang out at home with his people. He’ll need continued training to work on his counter-surfing and occasional destructive behavior, but he does well in a crate when he can’t be supervised. He’s highly food-motivated and responds well to redirection with treats when needed. He did not make any attempts to escape from his last foster home.

Unfortunately, Carlo was placed in boarding when it was realized that he couldn’t coexist peacefully with the other dogs in his foster home. We would really love to find this sweet young boy a foster or permanent home for the holidays. He’s truly a loving dog who just needs further training in an appropriate home (either as an only dog or with other large but laid-back pups). We are happy to set up meet-and-greets or bring him in and out of boarding if needed to help facilitate a smooth transition into the right home.
