Luna

8mo old female Husky/Shepherd mix

Meet Luna!  An 8 month old Husky mix who found herself on the E-List at MCACC for being scared. Luna comes from a backyard breeding home where she spent all of her time from the moment she was born until she was surrendered at MCACC. She was not socialized to people or animals outside of her small home so when she arrived at the very big and loud shelter, Luna became very overwhelmed and afraid. When we visited her in the shelter, we saw a sweet, shy dog who needed just some love to help her build confidence and open up!

Luna has slowly been adapting to life in her foster home. She took almost a full day to build up the courage to come out of her crate. Luna loves to play with the other dogs in the home, and she even interacts well with the cats! Luna does not show any interest in harming the cats and respects their boundaries when they’ve had enough play time. Luna feels very safe in her crate, and will stay in it without issue. However, if she ever has any food or treats in her crate, she does demonstrate some resource guarding if another dog comes to check it out. Luna responds very well to verbal corrections, and is food and treat motivated.

Luna is having a hard time overcoming her fear of men. She has not shown any aggression towards them, but does show that she is nervous and scared. Her ideal home will need to have humans who will practice a lot of patience with her, and understand what it will take to earn her trust. Luna does very well with the younger children in her foster home, showing them lots of love and affection. A home that has another young playful dog would also be a great fit for Luna!
