Prim

6mo Female Siberian Husky

Prim has had a really, really rough start to her life and she if FINALLY ready for the rest of it to be nothing short of amazing! That’s where you come in. This little girl is only around 5-6mos old and she has already been through so much. First she survived parvo. Then she got all her shots and was spayed and should have been up for adoption – but it just couldn’t have been that simple. Her foster noticed she was still leaking urine post-spay, as she had been her entire life to date. An ultrasound showed a rare congenital condition called an ectopic ureter where some things internally just weren’t in the right place, and one of her kidneys was small, shriveled and unhealthy.

Fixing this required an expensive procedure that could be risky, but this amazing little girl made it through and has healed remarkably well – she truly seems to have no idea she’s had any surgery at all at this point! We will have one final blood test done on here and she will be cleared for life! Dogs, just like humans, truly only NEED one kidney to live! Prim can be on regular puppy food until she is around a year old, and from that time forward her current veterinarian recommend a kidney prescription diet. It is also recommended to refrain from giving her any type of doggie supplemental chews or medications without consulting with a future veterinarian as well, but outside of that, she should have no other longterm special needs.

Prim is the perfect mix of spunky and sweet. She plays so well with other dogs and accepts all cues and corrections. She’s a very quick learner and follows the lead of the others as well. She’s just wanted to be a normal dog this whole time and has not understood why she needed special care, diapers changed, separation in a pen, etc. She is just thrilled the time has finally come that she can run free with the rest of them.

Prim is also amazing with humans – as she has had to be her whole life so far with the frequency of hands-on care she has received. She is (mostly) patient, loving and affectionate. Her incontinence issue has also fully resolved.

With her age and temperament right now, we still think she would do great in a home with cats or kids, provided she has an adopter that will work with her on continued training. She certainly has the right temperament to do well with both, she just needs human leadership like all huskies as she matures.
