Our adoption program for high-interest puppies, aimed at allowing us to further our mission to save more lives.

Through this program we will fund and facilitate more medical care and boarding fees for huskies saved from euthanasia and in need.

Over the last year, the number of dogs needing homes has increased exponentially. As of October 2021, we’ve saved over 130 dogs compared to previous years where we saved 50-60 over the course of twelve months.

Based on the increased need, we’ve shifted our efforts on saving huskies from the most desperate situations. This includes animals placed on the euthanasia list, those with behavioral needs, and serious medical cases.

2021 brought some of the most extreme medical cases we’ve ever seen, including three dogs who came to us with gunshot wounds. We’ve also covered medical costs for mass removals, an intestinal blockage, four pregnant mamas, three umbilical hernias, one cleft lip surgery, full evaluations for senior huskies, and behavioral work and training for dogs with aggression issues. For some of our most unique cases and to see where medical funding goes, please visit our Happy Tails page!

Bottom line: Our annual expenses have increased compared to prior years. Due to increased intake volume and medical cases, we’ve adjusted our adoption fee structure. Over the years, we’ve tried very hard not to raise our adoption fees because we don’t believe cost should be a barrier to a good home. But adoption fees only cover so much.

To support our dogs who have been in foster homes and boarding, and continue saving medical-needs dogs, we’re launching our new Pledge 4 Paws Program.

The Pledge 4 Paws Program is a way for our high-interest puppies to help our medical-needs and hard-to-place pups. Many of our puppies receive a LOT of interest and applications to highly qualified homes. In other cases, we have some dogs who have been in foster homes or boarding nearly six months, taxing our resources.

Through our Pledge 4 Paws Program, we also ask how much you would be willing to donate above and beyond the base adoption fee for a specific pup that has caught your interest. The base fee for puppies is $500 and covers microchip, vaccinations (rabies, bordatella, parvo, distemper), spay/neuter and all of their care from the time we receive them til adoption. Most backyard-bred puppies on craigslist cost the same or more with no medical included! Our goal has always been to simply cover our costs, however given the increased need, we simply want to be able to save more dogs and need more resources to do so. Should your application qualify, your donation would be collected with the adoption fee at time of adoption.
