Meet Eileen! This 2 year old Husky/Shepherd was e-listed at MCACC for kennel stress. She is a very energetic girl who just had too much pent up energy for a shelter environment. She didn’t understand why she was locked up and her exercise needs were not being met. Her notes said she was overstimulated and stressed, but she hadn’t shown any aggression while in the shelter. We are grateful we found a foster to take her in and get her to safety and help her thrive!

It took Eileen a minute to warm up to her foster home, but once she started to build trust she settled right in. Eileen absolutely loves people and is super outgoing and friendly with everyone she meets. Eileen likes to go on walks, and even though she is excited to go, she makes sure to be on her best behavior with very little leash pulling. Eileen experiences some separation anxiety, which has lead to some counter surfing and a little chewing. She does take well to correction and redirection — with consistency in keeping acceptable chew toys available, her behaviors are manageable and trainable. Eileen loves to play, especially with other dogs. One of her favorite games is tug-o-war!

An active, busy home will be a good fit for Eileen’s energy level. She needs a place where she will get the walks and activity outlets. Eileen likes to play with other dogs, but she also prefers to be the one in charge. More mellow dogs or a younger playful dogs would be best. She has had positive interactions with cats outside her home, so it is possible that she could live in a home with cats. Eileen has also done well will children ages 7 and up.
