Diamond has had a rough journey, and we were so glad to be able to welcome her into rescue! This scared mama was picked up as a stray with 8 very young puppies in tow. Sadly, 3 died shortly after arriving at the shelter, though the rest were adopted out after they were weaned. All grew up in the shelter and never found a foster home. That left Diamond scared and alone without her puppies. She was shut down and reactive towards humans in this environment after all she’d been through, which landed her on the euthanasia list. We were so glad a foster stepped up to give her a chance!
She was initially so scared while adjusting into her foster home! She slept outside the first 3 days, still afraid to come near humans (though she had no issue with 3 dogs, big and small). Over the last few months, her fosters have built enough trust to walk her on a leash, and Diamond now enjoys daily walks, romping in the backyard and pool. She continues to make progress socializing with friends, both human and canine. She has shown no aggression towards humans – only fear that improves greatly with time, patience and gradually pushing her boundaries. Her fosters have seen some counter-surfing and chewing type behaviors that have been corrected by keeping items out of reach. She does seem to love dirty laundry in particular, so it will be important to keep things put away.
Diamond is very vocal at mealtime and loves her morning walks. She also makes plenty of cute chatty husky sounds. She is still working on tolerating physical touch but she does seem to enjoy it once she relaxes. Diamond is proficient with the dog door and very treat motivated. She has the potential to be a great adventurer and devoted companion but will require some patience as she trusts and builds her confidence with new experiences.
She’s playful with other animals and her ideal how would have other dogs (one or more) as playmates. She has been tested with cats and did ok, though we would recommend supervision initially as she adjusts. Her foster believes she would do well with children of all ages.
