~1-2yr old male Siberian Husky
This handsome man came to us off the euthanasia list at the county shelter here in Phoenix. In the shelter setting, he was a shy, skittish boy who showed no aggression at all – unfortunately he was just so nervous that he was frozen stiff in the loud and scary shelter, and they determined it would be too difficult to adopt him out.
Bolt has been in a loving foster home for a few weeks now and has made leaps and bounds of progress in this time! With other dogs and patient humans in his live, he has really begun to thrive. He loves other dogs and plays well with them – no fighting or aggression issues at all. He has done well on a leash with the other dogs as well, although he does pull (remember he is still a husky!) and he also shows interest in other dogs and people when walking quite a bit as he has come out of his shell.
He has become an EXTREMELY affectionate boy with his foster humans now that he trusts them. He seems to bond strongly to people – he has gone from scared and skittish to sleeping right up against them us in the bed every night – obviously this is a matter of personal preference for an adopter, but for a dog that is more skittish to start with, allowing greater displays of affection can really help them open up and trust more, and it seems it has done just that for Bolt!
At home, he likes to lay either beside someone he trusts or on me on the couch. He loves toys, balls, Benebones, and stuffies. He’s been pretty receptive to learning things so far (he’s gotten down both sit and shake!). He’s been so great with other dogs and is pretty high energy when he gets comfy. He would do best in a home with other playmates, and if he’s an only dog, it would be best if he were with someone active.
As for crate-training, his foster is still working on it…. he’s not a big fan and likely was never kenneled, and this is something that would need continued work longterm if he is to be kenneled in his forever home.
Please fill out an adoption application if you’re interested in this sweet, playful, loving guy! He is a highly adoptable boy who has grown so much since his stay at the shelter and he would love to meet you!
