Bodhi
1.5yr old male Siberian Husky
This is a tough one for me (one of our founders) in rehoming in that there is a more personal attachment – I took Bodhi in as a puppy in October 2018 who was around 8-10 weeks at time. A friend and neighbor ended up fostering to adopt him. His three children were 6-12 years old at the time and Bodhi grew up with them. Bodhi was ok with the age of these children; it was never a major issue as he grew up and got bigger, and he loved playing with and sleeping with the kids.
The living situation changed in the last few months, and Bodhi is now in a living situation with even younger children and has not done well at all. He has grown into a giant, he’s super tall and leggy and very energetic – unfortunately he accidentally bit the smallest child. It was a smaller sized nip and it did break skin and leave several open wounds, enough that she required stitches and they decided they can no longer keep him. (I can show a photo of the bite if needed).
This is extremely difficult for me too because I absolutely love this dog, and if I didn’t know my limits, I would keep him myself. I’ve watched him grow up, have walked him some days, and been his dogsitter for 1.5yrs.
Bodhi is absolutely stunning, a more rare wooly-coat with gorgeous markings – he might have some malamute mixed in because he is absolutely huge to be full husky. I’d say 60-70lbs but his legs are sooooo long. He’s super super sweet with me and with my huskies here, but he knows us really well. He sleeps in bed with us when he stays over and is all about kisses, cuddles, runs and fetching. He is just extremely high energy and wasn’t taught the best of boundaries. He would love to have a similarly sized dog friend to live with or a family with older children to run and play with (he did grow up playing with older kids).
His new foster has observed him with her dogs and said that for the first couple days he did try to figure out dominance and have some food aggression issues, but with training and attention, he has made significant improvements in just 3-4 days. He will absolutely have an adjustment period wherever he goes, and his adopter must understand that he needs attention, training, and patience in order to thrive.
