Shelby was saved on his last day at a high kill shelter in California. He is very sweet with humans overall and is a happy, big guy! He weighs around 80lbs. This sweet human-loving boy is looking for his forever home at least. He came to us from a euthanasia list in California, and he is just so happy to be here!
He loves to cuddle and considers himself a lap dog. He likes going for walks as well, though his foster recommends some continued work on this because he is very big and very strong and still does pull quite a bit! His foster has reported improvements since he arrived – some days he’s great and responds really well to “easy” and other days he’s a man on mission.
When he’s home alone he is the best boy! He has his toys and blankey and doesn’t get into any trouble. Shelby is potty-trained for the most part (he may have adjustment-based accidents at first which generally are pretty easily correctible) and lets you know when he has to go by pacing by the door. He loves every person that walks in the door! Overall Shelby is a great dog and will be an incredible addition for anyone who is looking to be a one-dog household.
Unfortunately, Shelby does not do well with other dogs – we have approached a few introduction attempts optimistically but have had to call them off due to concerning behavior from Shelby. His foster has said that while walking on a leash he hasn’t had any issues with other dogs from a distance, but as we have gotten closer each time we have just not felt it was safe to attempt.
We know how difficult it can be to find the right placement for a dog that isn’t good with other dogs, and unfortunately this poor boy has been with us quite a while now, patiently waiting for his forever companion. If you think Shelby might be the one for you, apply today! He would simply LOVE to meet you!
NO SMALL KIDS
Shelby’s adoption fee is $250. He is up-to-date on vaccinations, chipped, neutered, and tested for common diseases.
