We got Moe off the e-list from the Phoenix county shelter in 2021. He was adopted and has done well in his new home, but his adopters now have a baby on the way. After consulting with a trainer, they have decided that Moe would best do in a home without small children based on his history. While Moe was with his foster, he bit a child (not severely). We were not notified there would be small children visiting this home, and the child was allowed to run around within close proximity to high value items such as his food bowl. We truly feel that this was an isolated incident, and a product of the circumstances. We do not feel this is a reflection of his true temperament, but we must disclose this – and reiterate Moe needs a home with no small children, and no plans to have them!
Moe is a “fur missile” of happiness! He LOVES to jump for joy and show you how excited he is to have another chance at life! He loves his humans so much. Unfortunately Moe loves them so much he can have a little separation anxiety. He is crate trained and feels safe there, so we recommend crating if he is going to be alone in the home at any time.
Moe is very food motivated, which makes training him a breeze! He is very protective of his food, though. So we feel it is best to feed separately if there are other dogs in the home, to eliminate any resource guarding. Moe would prefer dogs of similar age and activity level to himself. He has done well with other dogs in his previous foster and current home. However we will require a meet-and-greet with any other dogs, as he is a typical husky and can be overbearing and energetic!
His adopters have been working on his leash manners. He has a strong prey drive (so no cats in the home!), and has a tendency to pull. He has been doing much better with a halti/gentle leader and we suggest continuing with one until he can learn better manners.
The best home for Moe would be with someone who loves him as much as we do, and who can provide him the guidance and stable training he needs. We know with the right family he will flourish!
