Meet Ember and Raven! We took in this pair (sisters from the same parents born one year apart – Ember is 5 and Raven is 6) from Sandoval County Animal Care in Rio Rancho, NM – they were found wandering the desert and were held safely (unfortunately outdoors) until we could arrange emergency transport to Arizona.
We tracked down their original breeder and found that their siblings had Embark DNA results done – they are primarily German Shepherd, Malamute, Siberian Husky with a few other small breeds mixed in like Collie and Samoyed.
They were some of the most matted intakes we have ever had – we spent several hours cutting out the matted chunks in their tails, on their legs, and their whole backends. They are timid and shy, but so sweet.
We did a full medical work-up on these two and they are cleared of all diseases! Impressive given where they came from – they are also spayed, microchipped, fully vaccinated and ready for their own home.
Ember and Raven must stay together, they are very very bonded – Raven is more outgoing and has been helping Ember come out of her shell. They have a preference for women over men – with treats and patience they warm up to women pretty quickly, but unfortunately we haven’t seen them truly embrace any men yet so that may take time. According to their foster they just love kids too! The foster said that Ember in particular would sleep in bed with one of the kids and watch the door like she wants to protect her!
They do just fine with other dogs, though they haven’t been particularly playful with them yet – they are more on the timid side (though Ember will give a protective grrr over her sister every now and again) and we can’t see them starting a fight. They do want to chase cats a little too much so we are recommending a home with no kitties.
Fill out an app if you want to meet them!
Ember and Raven must be adopted together – fee for both combined is 400. They come spayed, vaccinated, and microchipped.
