Balto originally seemed to be the more outgoing one of the pair when he came in with his littermate sister, but unfortunately once they were separated he has totally shut down. He won’t leash for walks and is pretty much just terrified. He definitely needs other friendly dogs in the home to give guidance, and a patience owner to help. Balto doesn’t have a mean bone in his body, he just needs some time to trust. He and his sister spent the majority of their first months of life living together outside in a yard from the Clovis, NM area. The only way we were able to get them here on a transport was to separate them into different foster homes. Zia is adapting better than Balto, but we think both of them would be better off with each other. Some dogs do ok this young once separated but these two unfortunately aren’t doing great.
If a foster or adopter is interested in taking both together, that would absolutely be our priority, so please let us know!
