Yuri came to us from NM along with a few other pups who were in a mass hoarding situation that took quite a few rescues to get them all out – but we got them out! We are requiring an adopter with wolfdog or a LOT of husky / semi-feral dog breed experience. Please fill out an application if you would like to discuss this portion of his bio further, we will not discuss in depth to those who do not fill out an app!
Upon entering his foster home, he was very fearful, but has to this day shown no aggression. He is very scared of the majority of humans still, but finds comfort in other dogs and learns from them. After a month of staying at his foster home, he has gone from sitting terrified in the corner of the yard, frozen, to learning to come in the house and slowly exploring the living room (though still needs slow movements from humans to not startle him). He eats and drinks water just fine as long as the bowls are not near humans (his foster just feeds him in his crate and he does fine with that). His foster is working on hand-feeding, but it may take awhile to get there. Right now, he will take food that is tossed to him, but he’s slowly building trust with people! His foster is also working on doggie door training with him as well, though he will only go in the house if feels confident that it is empty of humans, where he will immediately go to his crate that’s near the dog door. He understands that he goes potty outside, but does have the occasional nervous accident if he gets startled by a person still.
He’s getting used to pets from humans, but doesn’t quite come up asking for them yet, though we think he will get there with time and patience. He has no issues with humans he is familiar with going up to him to pet him, though he may shy away if there is room to do so. His foster says you can tell he loves chin and ear scratches, he’s just learning to become comfortable that it’s a human doing it!
As mentioned, he gets along great with other pups and has discovered what “playing” is all about! For him, “playing” is trotting around the yard while the other pups have their zoomies. He has just started to learn about wrestle playing with the other pups in his foster home and it’s been amazing to watch him slowly open up and get more comfortable!
He’ll need a home with a lot of patience, some social pups for him to learn from, and experience with fearful dogs. His foster says it’s been amazing to watch his progress and thinks he will come around even further with the right encouragement, other dog friends, and family to help him gain trust to get him there.
