Walnut

female Siberian Husky mix

Meet Walnut! After coming into MCACC feeling a bit under the weather, Walnut was e-listed for having a cold. After an antibiotic treatment at the shelter, her symptoms resolved, but she remained on the euthanasia list because she still was not eating. We were able to bring Walnut into the rescue after one of our long time fosters offered to welcome her into their home. Walnut started eating, playing and showing lots of joy to be out of the shelter and now she is ready to find her new home!

It took Walnut about a week to really get settled into her foster home. She was a little restless at night, and a little skittish at first, but with dedicated trust building time, Walnut has come out of her shell and began to show what a loving girl she truly is. She adores her humans and wants to be wherever they are. Sometimes her adoration can cause jealousy or protective behaviors. Walnut is very receptive to corrections and redirections. She has typical high husky energy, which can lead to some counter surfing or trash digging, but her energy also means that she absolutely loves going for a walk or a car ride! One of her preferred places to go in the car is the dog park where she can play a good game of fetch and get a lot of exercise.

Walnut would do well in a variety of homes. She interacts well with other dogs of all sizes, and lives with large dogs in her foster home as well. She is also currently living with cats! So far she has shown interest in them and with some training as learned to coexist with them. Walnut would do well with children who are old enough to understand her boundaries. A home that can give Walnut the consistency, patience and reassurance that she needs will find that she is such a loving and affectionate companion!
