Meet Tarkin! He joined us from the medical elist at MCACC after testing positive for tick fever. He also showed some lameness, so we knew he needed a full check up. After finishing antibiotics for tick fever and testing negative for valley fever, Tarkin was still experiencing some lameness. He really gave us a scare when it progressed to include some neurological wobbly movements! We then realized he needed an MRI to figure out what was going on – fortunately, the neurologists were able to diagnose him with discospondylitis. They did some more tests and found he had a bacterial infection of discs in his spine! Thankfully, they got him on the right meds to treat it and he has fully recovered! You can really see how much better he is feeling these days.
Tarkin is a very relaxed and lower energy boy who just loves to show affection. Even with his lower energy (for a husky), he still plays catch and loves to chew on his toys. Tarkin will always accept ear scratches any time they are offered. He is house trained and knows how to use a doggy door. Tarkin does have a few common husky habits like counter surfing and trash diving if he is given the opportunity.
Tarkin would do well in a variety of different homes: active, quiet, loud, you name it! Although he isn’t the most energetic husky boy, he is unbothered by the high energy of his current foster home that includes 5 dogs and 2 children. He enjoys the company of the dogs, so he would love to have another doggy sibling. Tarkin is so gentle and cautious around the kids that we believe he would do well with all ages. Tarkin has not interacted with any cats, so we do not know how he would do, but he has shown incredible patience with the other animals in his home so he may be ok.
