Monte

2yo male Husky mix

Meet Monte! This 2-year-old pup has been through quite a bit. He was e-listed after being adopted and returned multiple times from the shelter. At the very last minute, the morning he was set to be euthanized, the person who originally found him as a stray realized his plight and stepped up to foster, though he is not in a position to keep him forever. Monte is grateful for be alive, but now looking for the stability and structure of a true forever home. Despite his adoptions and returns, his volunteer notes at the shelter were all consistent — Monte is sweet, friendly, and even walks well on leash. He takes treats ever so gently and has a big heart. Monte has lived with other dogs in the past and seemed to do well with those who match his energy. Like many dogs who’ve been shuffled around, he needed time to decompress and feel safe and secure.

Monte quickly showed how playful and affectionate he could be in his foster home. He’s pretty high-energy and loves to be kept busy. Monte is working on some behaviors including counter surfing, and chewing on things that aren’t toys. He responds well to redirection, especially when treats are involved. He walks nicely on leash, but he doesn’t miss the opportunity to tell you about all the other dogs you’ll pass on your walk. Monte has a soft spot for belly rubs, cuddle time, and, most of all, being near his people.

Monte is looking for an active home that understands the value of structure, positive reinforcement, and patience. He does well with both small and large dogs in his foster home, but could also thrive as an only dog. Most of all, he needs to be given attention and stimulation. He doesn’t love being in a crate and has some separation anxiety, so he’d benefit from a structured routine and someone who’s home more often than not. Monte is good with kids 7 and up and would be a great fit for anyone able to commit to working with him on basic manners and providing lots of playtime. Monte is ready to settle into his forever home — fill out an application if you think that could be you!
