Korra

~2yo female Siberian Husky

Korra is ready for her forever home! This sweet young lady was found in the desert out west past the 303 with a badly swollen face and with a 5 month old puppy in the exact same condition. Both had been bitten by a rattlesnake and needed ER treatment right away. Thankfully the amazing staff at AVECC got them all fixed up, and since intake they have both fully recovered and are doing so well in their respective foster homes!

Korra’s foster reports that it took her about a week to settle into a routine, but has been doing great now that she’s comfortable. She is a little timid at first, but turns into a super sweet and loving girl pretty quickly. She has shown no aggression or guarding concerns, but does have some basic behaviors that need training, including counter-surfing and getting into the trash (she loves to shred up bits of paper!) if she has access.

Based on her lack of basic house manners on intake, we assume Korra spent most of her time outside before coming to us. Her foster is in a townhome and while Korra has done just fine from an energy standpoint, she doesn’t want to go potty while on a walk. She likely never needed to go potty while being on a leash in the past, so this adjustment has caused some potty training adjustment issues. Her foster said that it really is minor and she has only pooped inside twice in several months, but has peed a little more often than that. This would likely resolve right away in a home with a dog door to a yard, but alternatively she would need an adopter who is able to continue working with her as she continues to learn.

She is a very smart girl and has done really well so far getting used to home life! She has learned to sit for treats by watching her foster brother husky, and responds very well to basic verbal correction. She wants to please, she just needs someone to show her how. She also loves to snuggle and is very affectionate.

She is playful with other dogs, though we think medium sized and bigger would be best for her. She hasn’t shown prey drive but her first foster home did have a very small dog that was under 10lbs that she was a bit much for – she is still young herself and does love to play, even if she isn’t as insane as many other huskies!

Overall she’s a really well-rounded girl. She has learned car rides are a good thing and always gets excited for a pup cup. She has done so well on a routine and would be a great addition to any family. We even believe she would be ok with kids, though always recommend close supervision at first as she settles. She has not been tested with cats as of yet.
